Boston Public Schools Indoor Air Quality Management Plan

BPS IAQ Management Team,

This management plan, developed by Boston Public Schools Facilities (BPS) Management, aims to ensure that BPS buildings are welcoming, vibrant, clean, and safe. To accomplish this, BPS Facilities Management oversees the management, repairs, maintenance, and security of all 125 school buildings, 5 administrative locations, and 5 leased or closed buildings. The health, safety, and comfort of students and staff in their learning environments are top priorities for Boston Public Schools. Indoor air quality (IAQ) is a crucial factor in creating a healthy and comfortable space. Indoor air pollutants can cause or contribute to both short- and long-term health issues, including asthma, respiratory infections, allergic reactions, headaches, nasal congestion, eye and skin irritations, coughing, sneezing, fatigue, dizziness, and nausea. Additionally, indoor air pollutants and extreme temperature and humidity levels can impair students’ ability to concentrate and learn. The BPS IAQ Management Plan is designed to monitor and improve air quality across all BPS school buildings.
