Ensuring Educationally Sufficient Facilities
The Maryland Interagency Commission on School Construction (IAC) staff hosted a series of webinars in 2019 to provide foundational facilities management information to stakeholders and the general public. This webinar, the fourth in the series, explains how the measures and calculations needed to produce a facility’s relative educational suitability score can provide essential planning and maintenance management information for efficient facilities management. For example, it discusses why a facility’s overall condition index score, which evaluates physical deficiencies, is important for strategic decisions about capital maintenance versus routine maintenance costs or the renewal or replacement of a facility. Good facilities measures enable us to make informed investment choices that maximize gains in both educational sufficiency and facility-condition sustainability. Other webinars in this series, along with slide decks and notes, can also be accessed from the website.
