Maintenance and Maintenance Effectiveness

The Maryland Interagency Commission on School Construction (IAC) staff hosted a series of webinars in 2019 to provide foundational facilities management information to stakeholders and the general public. This webinar, the third in the series, focuses on maintenance, exploring the benefits of preventative maintenance and the tools that can be employed to plan and manage maintenance and measure its effectiveness. This webinar emphasizes maintenance because, combined with operations, it makes up more than half of a school’s total ownership costs. Effective maintenance is vital for fiscal sustainability and closely tied to planning. A comprehensive maintenance program ensures safe, functional learning environments and provides ongoing data for planning to improve portfolio management.
