The School Pulse Panel (SPP) is a monthly survey conducted by the U.S. Census Bureau for the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), which is part of the Institute of Education Sciences within the U.S. Department of Education. Started during the 2021–22 school year, the survey was created to quickly collect data on how the COVID-19 pandemic affected students and staff in U.S. public schools. Since then, the survey’s scope has expanded to include a broad range of issues related to public education. In the 2023 academic year, the SPP began asking questions about school facility conditions, providing insights into the state of school buildings. In the 2024 academic year, the SPP began asking questions about whether school facilities were meeting the needs of students, providing insights into the learning environments of students.
