Investing Equitably in School Facilities. Policy Update. Vol. 29, No. 7
This report highlights that poor indoor environmental quality significantly impairs student health and reduces academic performance. Many school facilities are in disrepair, leading to subpar learning conditions. A 2020 national survey found that half of U.S. school districts reported the need to update or replace at least two building systems in numerous schools. Moreover, when the responsibility for repairs falls solely on localities, poorer districts are at a disadvantage and are least likely to afford necessary improvements.
