Managing School Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) Amid Extreme Heat in the West/Southwest

Hosted by Center for Green Schools at the U.S. Green Building Council

As rising temperatures increase maintaining healthy learning environments becomes more complex—and more critical. Join this webinar, hosted by the Center for Green Schools at the U.S. Green Building Council, to explore how extreme heat events are impacting indoor air quality (IAQ) in K–12 schools across the Western and Southwestern US, and what school systems can do to respond.

Participants will hear from leading experts and practitioners, including:

  • Dr. Kelly Turner, UCLA, sharing research on heat resilience and the built environment;
  • JaQuan Cornish, Oakland Unified School District, highlighting real-world strategies and lessons learned;
  • Andra Yeghoian, Ten Strands, offering insights on climate resilience; and
  • Dorian Schwartz, a graduate student researcher from University of Colorado specializing in IAQ and heat-related impacts in schools.

The session will provide actionable strategies, emerging research, and practical case studies to support school district staff in addressing IAQ during extreme heat conditions. The content will be primarily focused within the West/Southwest region (AZ, CA, NM, NV, HI, OK, TX).
