Developing Great Schoolyards: A Handbook for Elementary Schools
This report provides a systematic overview of schoolyards and their connection to student educational outcomes. The researchers surveyed public schools in the District of Columbia to identify key elements of healthy, safe, and educationally enriching schoolyards. The report is organized around five key themes: the importance of quality schoolyards, healthy child development, quality education, community vitality, and realizing the vision. It presents a detailed plan for improving schoolyards through district and community investment and how students can benefit from these enhancements.
