Championing Staff Wellness: School Employee Wellness Grants, Baltimore County Public Schools

This 2017 Kaiser Permanente case study documents a School Employee Wellness grant program implemented across eight Baltimore County Public Schools. Funded by Kaiser Permanente’s Labor Management Partnership, the grants supported school-based Wellness Champions who designed and led initiatives including stress reduction classes, staff break room renovations, physical activity programs, and nutrition education. All eight schools reported improvements in staff morale, reduced stress, and increased camaraderie. The program demonstrates that modest investments in the physical and social school environment can meaningfully improve staff health and well-being.
