Helping Johnny Walk to School: Policy Recommendations for Removing Barriers to Community-Centered Schools

National Trust for Historic Preservation,

This report outlines actions that states and localities can take to promote more community-centered schools- those that are centrally located, jointly share facilities, and fit well within neighborhoods. Produced through a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, this report recommends policy changes to ensure that the educational, health, environmental, community, and fiscal factors are considered by the entire community when making decisions about school closures, consolidations, and site selections.
