The Case for Federal Funding for School Infrastructure

Center for American Progress (CAP),

This report makes the case for a federal investment in K-12 public school facilities, which are often overlooked in infrastructure discussions. With over 50 million attendees daily, schools are the second-largest infrastructure sector in the nation and serve as vital economic drivers. Well-educated students earn significantly more over their lifetimes, emphasizing the importance of school conditions for effective learning and economic impact. The report calls for Congress to allocate most infrastructure funds to improve schools in poor condition, addressing essential systems like roofing and HVAC. It estimates that the total cost to bring all U.S. schools to good condition is around $200 billion.
